UTICA, N.Y. -- Seven people in the Mohawk Valley are arrested on Federal charges for buying main ingredients used to make methamphetamine. The seven people charged are from West Winfield, Sauquoit, and Oriskany Falls.

Those arrested are charged with buying more than nine grams or approximately 370 tablets of pseudoephedrine or ephedrine within a 30 day period.

The Assistant U.S. District Attorney John Katko said no one has been charged with making or selling the drugs but that part of the case is still being investigated.

"Actions like this go a long way towards stopping the flow of that and stopping the development of that. When they see things like this happen to them I think they're much less likely to try and make methamphetamine," said Katko.

If convicted, those who have prior felonies can receive up to two years in jail and fines that range from $2,500 to $250,000.
