Traveling Underground Railroad exhibit stops in Auburn
AUBURN, N.Y. -- A traveling exhibit by the Forging the Freedom Trail Foundation has reached the home of one of the leaders of the Underground Railroad, Harriet Tubman. The exhibit, which is traveling across New York State, is on view at the Tubman home in Auburn through the end of May.

"One of the things that I hope they take away is a greater understanding of African Americans. Their role in the United States. And all that their ancestors had to endure during the times of slavery and during that period, in history, that is known to us as the Underground Railroad period," said the Tubman House site manager Rev. Paul Carter.

Harriet Tubman was a so-called conductor on the Underground Railroad, helping to lead runaway slaves to freedom. She was also known as the Moses to her people.

On May 24th, in the midst of the display, a major gathering known as the Harriet Tubman Pilgrimage is planned at the Auburn site.
