Community comes together after synagogue vandalized
NORWICH, N.Y. – A community-wide prayer service was held for a synagogue in Chenango County. Vandals defaced the building earlier in the week.

Police said an anti-Semitic graffiti message was found in the Norwich Jewish Center Wednesday, along with damage throughout the building. Repairs will likely cost tens of thousands of dollars.

People of several faiths packed into the Emmanuel Episcopal Church to pray for unity and peace.

Norwich officials said they are proud of how the community comes together in bad times.

"Even out of the worst situations, some good comes out of that. I think the good comes out to show how people really do love each other and how they are there to help each other in need," said Norwich Mayor Joseph Maiurano.

In 2003, the center was the target of another hate crime when its rear windows were broken.
