OTSEGO, N.Y. -- The Otsego County Sheriff's department is calling the drowning death of an 8-year-old boy over the weekend a tragic accident.

Emergency crews responded to a call Saturday afternoon on Hamilton Road in the town of Otego for a missing boy. They found 8-year-old Matthew Mundy submerged under four to five feet of water.

Sheriff's deputies say Matthew was playing with a young relative when he fell into the pond while swinging on a rope. He died at Albany Medical Center Sunday night.
