BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. -- This week, more than 100 carp anglers hope to make a few lucky catches in Baldwinsville for the second annual Northeast Regional Carp Tournament. Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce officials said the four day event generates about $150,000 for the local economy.

Forty-three two-person teams from all over the world are here to compete for $10,000 to $15,000 in prize money.

Tournament officials say the approximately five mile course will extend down the Seneca River from the Red Mill Inn to the Onondaga Lake outlet near Long Branch Park.

Beginning at 8:00 a.m. Thursday competitors will fish non-stop for 50 consecutive hours to try to reel in the largest and as many carp as they can.

Wednesday night the event gets started as teams will draw their peg position. Officials say once they draw that position, it takes both skill and a little luck.

"Your spot is getting there, getting set up, finding out what the fish are interested in, getting some bait in the water, keeping them there the entire 50 hours, because they like to roam up and down that river, but if you get the right amount of bait in, they'll come in and start feeding and stay there. That's part of the working strategy," said organizer Dave Moore.

Moore said the Seneca River has a great supply of carp making it ideal for this tournament. He said it will go on rain or shine so come check it out.
