Mountain Fest kicks off on Fort Drum
FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Fort Drum is celebrating its 100 year anniversary. Events kicked off earlier this week with a 25-mile road march and on Thursday, Mountain Fest activities got underway at the Wheeler Sack Army Airfield.

Events include concerts from country music star Gary Allen and the band Bowling for Soup and festival goers can catch an air show this weekend.

"You're going to see not only a lot of aircraft but the 10th Mountain Division will also do an air assault, kind of like how they would really do it in the real world. It will be compressed and out in the wide open, which normally wouldn't happen that way. What you will see is a representation of what they would really do in an actual exercise," said Jack Lancaster, Fort Drum Chief of Plans and Mobilization.

"It sounds like we have a schedule packed, starting off tonight and throughout the weekend. It's a great family weekend, bring out the kids and come watch us fly. We're going to put on a great show. There will be people here to answer any questions you might have about the Air Force, the F-16 or any job that the Air Force offers, same with the Army and the Navy. So we are encouraging everybody to come on out," said Maj. George Clifford.

The gates for the show open at 8 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday and admission is free.
