DEC being sued by Lewis County
LEWIS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Lewis County is suing the DEC over its decision to close roads to ATVs.
Back in April, the DEC announced it was closing 40 roads in state reforestation areas in Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties due to the state vehicle and traffic law. Now Lewis County has filed an article 78 to see if the DEC had justification or jurisdiction to do what they did.

feel that they reclassified them just specifically so they could hang the vehicle and traffic law on this so that now it becomes a legal issue rather than a political issue when you're talking about ATV's," said Rick Lucas, Chairman of Economic Development Committee.
We contacted the DEC about the lawsuit, but a spokesperson for the department said they could not comment on pending litigation.
