By: AP Wire Service

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A 61-year-old woman admits helping a prison inmate file income tax returns with fraudulent requests for refunds.

U.S. Attorney Glenn Suddaby says Sharon Lee Broome, formerly of Syracuse, pleaded guilty to conspiracy in federal court. The charge carries a maximum sentence of ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Broome admitted she helped the inmate get tax forms on which he entered fraudulent information that netted a refund of more than $57,000. Broome deposited the money in her bank account and forwarded some to the inmate.

Sentencing is set for December 22 in Syracuse federal court.
