Veteran honored for service
CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Chemung County veteran has been honored for his service on and off the battle field.
Senator George Winner recognized Robert Laskaris Thursday by inducting him into the senate's online veterans' hall of fame. Laskaris served in the Army in Korea and Vietnam. He returned to Elmira and has been a leader in veterans' affairs for decades.
"The veterans in this country are super people. And you have to look out for some of them. That's what we try to do in our county here. And I think we did a good job," Laskaris said.

"He's very dedicated. When he's involved in something, he's very dedicated. So when he was in the service, that was his whole life," said Patricia Mowry, Laskaris’ daughter.
"I can't remember really many veterans' events I've attended in the last 30 years in office where Bob has not been a major presence and a major advocate on behalf of veterans' concerns," Senator Winner said.
