SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A teen is in the hospital after an being hit near the eye while shooting a BB gun.

Syracuse police say Tyler Derinski, 16, was shooting a Red Ryder BB gun with his uncle on Crafton Avenue Friday afternoon when a shot ricocheted off a tree. According to investigators, the shot lodged very close to his eye, but did not seem to affect it.

Derinski was taken to University Hospital for surgery, but there's no word on his current condition.
