BRADFORD COUNTY, Penn. -- Steven Colegrove was the guy who brought steaks to barbecue get-togethers. People who played softball with Colegrove described him as a generous friend, but they say sometimes his promises were empty, like when he offered to pay for Tara Tracy's honeymoon.

Tracy and her sister testified Thursday. She said, "Yes, he made promises he didn't fulfill. But so many people do."

Friends also testified that Colegrove lied about having cancer and spoke about coming into money, he said, from re-enlisting in the military. Colegrove also could have come into money when his mother, father and brother were killed in August 2007.

Pennsylvania State Police testified they recovered shotgun shells from the Colegroves' Tuscarora Township home and a gun with blood on it from the home where Colegrove was staying.

A forensic expert said the shells bore unique markings that only could have been made by that gun. He said, "My conclusion is the evidence shot shells...were, in fact, discharged with that particular Maverick shotgun."

Colegrove's lawyers called the analysis "subjective."

Prosecutors are expected to wrap up their case Friday. Testimony is scheduled to include Pennsylvania state troopers who discovered a wound on Steven Colegrove's shoulder.
