Students design roller coasters
ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- The sky was the limit as students from St. Lawrence County schools used their creativity to design model roller coasters. The teams met at Clarkson University for a competition to see who had the best design.

The students are part of the county's Impetus For Career Success Program for students interested in math, science and technology. Groups of seventh through 12th graders designed and built their own roller coasters, each with a unique theme. Students say the roller coaster business isn't easy, but their hard work was worth it.

"The Impetus Program is really fun and it's a great place to, you learn a lot of things and then you get to come to events like this," said Heuvelton eighth grader Danielle Moyer.

"We had fun. We learned be prepared, set aside more time than you need and we learned a great deal of teamwork," said Colton-Pierrepont 11th grader Jacob Mueller.

First place went to the team from Canton whose roller coaster’s theme was Jungle Fever.
