Truck driving school sees increase in applicants
Harry Kowalchyk is the president of the National Tractor Trailer School locally in Liverpool. He says the number of job applicants a the tractor trailer school are up by about 20 percent locally.
At a time when many people are looking for good paying jobs or any job at all truck driving can be an appealing career. Kowalchyk says the industry itself has expanded dramatically over the past few years and it doesn't take very long to receive the proper training.
NTTS in Liverpool offers certification programs that take between five to 24 weeks to complete. Kowalchyk says good drivers are always needed and with the state of the economy a truck driving career maybe more appealing than ever.
"Trucking is appealing to them because of the high first year income of $36,000 to $42,000, the openings that exist for qualified individuals. And, basically the growth of the industry. And the transportation industry is the first into a recession and the first out of a recession,” said Kowalchyk.
