Local animal rescue group raises funds
DEWITT, N.Y. -- A local animal rescue group is getting support for its cause. An outreach event was held in DeWitt Saturday for the German Shepherd Rescue of Central New York.

The group takes German Shepherds in from local and out of state shelters and tries to domesticate them. One director says they turn around about 65 animals a year.

"Once we get them we socialize them, and give them structure. Some training and stability and what we find is if they were a good dog to begin with we can bring that out and make them adoptable,” said Tami Evans, Director of German Shepherd Rescue of CNY.

The job can be expensive, which is why they held the fundraiser Saturday. Each dog they take in costs at least $200 dollars to take care of, plus boarding and care.
