Jiverly Wong's parents give interview
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Jiverly Wong's parents speak for the first time.

The Syracuse Post-Standard published an exclusive interview with Henry Voong and Mui Thong Monday. The couple discussed their relationship with their son.

Voong told the paper he first realized his son was mentally unstable in 1990. He took Wong to the hospital, but a doctor sent them home. Soon after, Wong moved to California and had little contact with his parents before returning home in 2007. His parents say he spoke very rarely and had no friends, choosing instead to spend most of his time in his bedroom.

According to his father, Wong became even more withdrawn two weeks before the shooting. Even so, Voong and Thong told the Post Standard they were shocked to find their son had committed such a vicious act.

The couple have kept to themselves, fearing retaliation, although they say they are grateful for the sympathy they have received.

This interview with the paper is the only one Voong and Thong say they will give.
