New business looking to open in Massena
MASSENA, N.Y. -- As many North Country employers are feeling the wrath of the economic crisis, a new company is looking to open shop in Massena.
The Seaway Private Equity Corporation has invested $600,000 in a company called Ceramic Matrix Composites LLC. The company uses state of the art ceramic materials and advanced processes to create wear parts at a low cost.
CMC executives are currently selecting a plant location in the Massena Industrial Park.

The company will employ about ten people and says the North Country has just the type of workers it's looking for.
“The jobs that are being lost, those are exactly the type of people we'll be looking for this. People with good technical skills, mechanical skills, and from Clarkson, good engineering and science foundation as well," said Bob Ziek of Ceramic Matrix Composites LLC.
“We have several hundred jobs that we need to replace in the Massena area. It's been pointed out that one of the best ways of doing that, instead of trying to solicit an employer with 5-700 employees is to get 50 or 60 employers to come to Massena with 10 to 20," said Dan Pease of the Business Development Corporation for a Better Massena.
CMC expects to start manufacturing in Massena early next year.
CMC is the Seaway Private Equity Corporation's sixth investment in St. Lawrence County. The organization works to bring new businesses with growth potential to the North Country.
