Free Comic Book Day held
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Anyone who truly loves comic books spent the day at the Comix Zone in Syracuse. The store on South Main Street participated in Free Comic Book Day.

Comic Book enthusiastists could come in and choose from a wide variety of books, then take them home, free of charge.

The stores buy the books at a discounted price and give them away. Store owners say they are happy to participate because it introduces people to comics and some of their beloved characters.

"Comic books have been around since the thirties and people have just grown up with a lot of these characters, superman, batman. Now recently with the big movies, Iron Man, X-Men, Spiderman and Batman. People just love the characters; they are characters people can relate too. And it's just the characters people grew up with, they can pass them on down to their kids. They are just a fun way to escape the everyday realities of bad economies and things like that,” said Greg VanCamp, owner of Comix Zone.

The day occurs annually at select stores nationwide.
