Inmate continues testimony in Oxley trial

Inmate continues testimony in Oxley trial

An inmate who said Wayne Oxley confessed he beat his neighbor with a baseball bat was cross-examined by defense Monday.

The trial, now in its sixth week, took an unexpected turn Friday when the prosecution re-opened its case. Wayne Oxley, 40, of Ogdensburg is facing charges of killing Bernard Trickey.

Inmate Jamin Haggart testified Oxley told him in a jail cell that he killed Trickey. Haggart said jail cells were not locked at all times, allowing him to wander. Another former inmate testified he saw Oxley and Haggart speaking about the trial while watching the television series "Prison Break."

The defense attorney said he plans to subpoena at least 24 St. Lawrence County Correctional Officers to see if they saw Haggart in Oxley's jail cell. The trial continues Wednesday.
