OGDENSBURG, N.Y. -- The typical college student has class and studying on his mind. Nick Vaugh is no different. The Clarkson sophomore is double majoring in business and political science, but he's also thinking about the future of Ogdensburg.

“I was born and brought up in Ogdensburg and I love my city. And I want to see it do better. I really believe that it can do better, that people want it to get better and I have hope,” said Vaugh.

After he campaigned door to door, voters recently elected Vaugh to Ogdensburg's City Council.

"They were skeptical at first. You know, a 20-year-old college student. The usual kid, they would think, is not mature enough, not ready to lead city government, but I proved them wrong. I had a stance on the issues, I presented a message and they bought into it,” said Vaugh.

Now Nick says that his age combined with his experience of being a college student will help expand the diversity of city council and help bring some fresh ideas to the table.

“I offer a new perspective. New ideas, it's just a fresh look to the city. And the city and the North Country, we need it. We need some new energy and committed to moving the city and the region forward,” Vaugh said.

Nick's top priorities include creating high quality jobs in the area, as well as developing the city's waterfront.
