Beacon Federal funds Senior Crimestoppers
ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Two Onondaga County senior housing facilities are getting some help making their communities safe.
Beacon Federal announced it will give The Crossings in Minoa and The Nottingham in Jamesville more than $900,000 to fund their Senior Crimestoppers Program. The nationally acclaimed Senior Crimestoppers provides on-going crime prevention programs to help stop crime in senior housing facilities.
The funding from Beacon Federal will provide the program free of charge to both facilities to help create a more secure and sound environment for residents.

"Any time vulnerable people live in an area like this they can be taken advantage of, exploited, their vulnerable. And so we need to provide preventative measures, like neighborhood watch to take care of them," said Peter Gwaltney of the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation.
Nationwide, Senior Crimestoppers last reported a 91 percent reduction in crime incidents in participating facilities.
