Pegese assigned attorney, pleads not guilty
ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- One of four suspects in connection with the death of New Hartford Police Officer Joseph Corr has been formally arraigned. Marion Pegese, 36, was assigned an attorney and pleaded not guilty to one count of second degree murder and 18 counts of robbery Friday.

Corr was shot and killed behind the Byrne Dairy in Kirkland as he chased two suspects following an armed robbery at a jewelry store on Commercial Drive three years ago. Pegese has been in a New Jersey prison serving time for a 2005 jewelry store robbery and could not be charged in this case until he returned to New York.

"He deserves to be in jail for the rest of his life. Because even though he wasn't the shooter, he was the planner," said Officer Corr's mother, Kathy Corr.

"It's good to see him with the shackles on. Then he's not going to hurt anybody again. God knows how many people he has hurt along the way," said Corr's father, David Corr.

Pegese will be back in court July 17th. The District Attorney's office hopes to have Robert Ward, another suspect in the robbery in Oneida County, within the next few weeks. They plan to try both Ward and Pegese at the same time.
