Construction work digs up skeletal remains at New Hartford High School
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- Construction work at the New Hartford High School dug up an interesting find. Crews found human skeletal remains while digging a trench at the school.

New Hartford Police say the school was built on a former burial ground and the bones could be as old as 200 years old. Forensic crews were on scene to remove the body and will conduct a study on it.

Though police say foul play is likely not an issue, they have halted construction work and are treating the area as a crime scene.

"Until such time we determine that no crime is committed, they are human remains and we have protocols we have to follow. So, yeah, it is a crime scene, sort of, but an interesting one," said New Hartford Police Chief Raymond Philo.

Chief Philo says past documents show that skeletal remains have been found at the school two times prior to this week's discovery.
