Fishing is free in NY this weekend
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Grab your fishing gear and head for the water -- it's New York's annual free fishing weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday, anglers can fish in New York's lakes, rivers and streams without a state fishing license.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation first held the free weekend in 1991 to get people out fishing for the first time, or renew the interest of those who haven't cast a fly or reeled in a lure in a long time.

In addition to the annual free fishing weekend, DEC's regional offices sponsor free fishing events throughout the warm-weather months.

Additional details can be found on the DEC website dec.ny.gov. While you're there, check out the state's fishing regulations, which still apply even though the fishing is free.
