Police: man's death was drowning

ROME, NY -- An autopsy confirms that the Verona man whose body was pulled from the Mohawk River died from asphyxiation due to drowning.
Rome police have determined that Luke Marshall's death was accidental.
Police and fire units were first called to the scene near East Whitesboro Street around 6-45 Friday night for reports of a missing swimmer.
According to investigators, Marshall had been swimming in the river with several friends when he went under water and did not return to the surface.

Marshall's body was recovered two hours later in an area of the river that was 13 feet deep. He was pronounced dead at Rome Hospital.
