Smoke testing to begin Tuesday
ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The villages of New Hartford and Yorkville are alerting the public that smoke testing for their sewer lines begins Tuesday. The tests will locate leaks, faulty connections and broken pipelines. These problems can allow the system to be overwhelmed by water and cause overflows.
The testing will occur in various locations from July 14th to the 23rd.
During the testing, the pipes are filled with an artificial smoke and residents are warned that they might see it as testing is conducted. But officials say there is no reason to worry because it has no odor, is non toxic and does not cause a fire hazard.
