FORESTPORT, N.Y. -- Two children are hurt in an ATV accident in the Town of Forestport. Oneida County sheriff's deputies say it happened Monday night around 8:10 along Grantville Road.

Investigators say Matthew Helmer, 14, lost control of the ATV when he tried to brake. Helmer attempted to avoid a tree and hit a large rock causing the ATV to overturn.

Helmer and his 12-year-old passenger were thrown from the ATV, but they were both wearing helmets. They were taken to the hospital for broken bones.

The accident remains under investigation.
