Three plead not guilty in police officer assault case
UTICA, N.Y. -- Three people plead not guilty to charges related to the assault of a Utica Police Officer.


Police say during a drug investigation Sergeant Charles Kelly was trying to make an arrest when Paris Smith, 22, started to fight him Tuesday afternoon.

Kelly has a separated shoulder and severe cuts after his head hit the pavement several times. Another officer who came to the scene hurt his hand during the struggle.

The suspect, Paris Smith, is facing several charges including felony drug, assault and weapons charges. He's being held on $252,000 bail.

Two other people were arraigned. Dasha Hendricks, 19, is facing a misdemeanor for obstructing government administration and drug charges. She's being held on $95,000 bail.

Supora Hill is charged with obstructing governmental administration. She is out on bail.

The three will be back in Utica City Court Monday for a felony hearing.

Sergeant Kelly has been released from the hospital and is expected to be out of work for some time.
