Senators condemn Lockerbie bomber welcome
NEW YORK STATE – Four United States senators are working to officially condemn the release and hero's welcome given to the Lockerbie bomber when he returned home to Libya.

New York Senators Kristen Gillibrand and Charles Schumer and New Jersey Senators Frank Lautenberg and Bob Menendez announced Friday they will introduce the Senate resolution.

Abdel Baset al-Megrahi was released from a Scottish prison on August 20th. Thousands greeted him when he stepped off his plane in Libya.

In 2001, Al-Megrahi was convicted of the bombing of Pam Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland that killed 270 people, 35 of whom were SU students, along with a number of others from Upstate New York. He was granted release because he has terminal cancer.
