BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- Barbecue enthusiasts refer to it as the "Super Bowl of Swine." It's the 2010 World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest and one Endwell man will be making the trip to Memphis to compete.
Ed Ranucci and his family took first place in a competition last weekend which gave them an automatic spot in world championships in May. He says the most enjoyable part of competing is working with his family. His team is composed of his wife and children.
Roughly 200 teams will take part in the competition with about $90,000 of prize money on the line. For now, Ranucci says he's more concerned with logistics than his cooking.
"I don't know if it's sunk in yet. We're still thinking about it. There's one thing if you win and qualify for something, but now, it's all the things you need to put together to get out to Memphis," said Ranucci.
The barbecue competition is expected to attract about 100,000 people.
