SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Former congressman James Walsh has endorsed his party's nominee in the race for mayor of Syracuse; republican Steve Kimatian.
Walsh, the son of Mayor William Walsh, served for years as a Syracuse Common Councilor before his election to congress. He says business experience is a must for a new mayor as the city faces serious budget problems ahead.
Walsh says a big lead in democratic registration in voters should not be an obstacle in Kimatian's effort.
“I believe they don't want partisan sniping and fighting. They want good governance. They want someone who can manage the city. Who can make it work? Who can make the neighborhoods safer? Who can build the tax base so you have resources within the city, that you can use,” said James Walsh, former congressman.
Kimatian is facing a three way race against democrat Stephanie Miner and conservative party candidate Otis Jennings.
