ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Get dirty, get loud, and get fast.

"It's a spectacle. It's everything you can probably want in an event. It's the Super Bowl for us," said Jen Brown, the DIRTcar Northeast Public Relations Coordinator.

More than 120,000 fans and 500 teams made a temporary home at the State Fair Grounds for Super Dirt Week.

"It's come from a bunch of guys 38 years ago that got together and thought it would be pretty cool to come race on the mile to something that is a key component in each of these race teams' year," said Brian Carter, the World Racing Group CEO.

With storms pouring down on two out of the four days, some fans were bundled up like it was January.

"It's been miserable. The last two years in Syracuse had been beautiful, warm, sunny. You come here and it rains and all the classes get pushed back. The pits are muddy," said Mike Martin, a DIRT pro stock driver.

When asked how they endured the storms, Pam Shenk of Pennsylvania said:

"With a lot of alcohol."

With that borrowed help, excitement conquered the bad weather.

"It doesn't matter if you're a federal judge or a ditch digger. Everyone's here for one reason, the race," said Shenk.

Drivers go more than a hundred miles per hour on a very dangerous track, but they say there's no place else they'd rather be.

"It's kind of a dream for drivers to come to Syracuse and go this fast and it's like our speed weeks for the dirt cars. It's like Daytona all over again," said Martin.

Daytona, with a little more dirt.
