SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Revitalizing Syracuse's Near Westside through "green" homes. That's the goal of some new construction now underway in the area.
Three homes using state of the art green technology are being built on vacant sites. When ready, officials say they'll sell for about $80,000.
The home designs were chosen through a competition sponsored by Syracuse University and the School of Architecture.
"The design is different. It doesn't necessarily look like other homes in the neighborhood, but at the same time, we think that it is going to usher in a new era in home building. Homes that are green, that are energy efficient and that function for the people that live in them," said Home HeadQuarters, Inc. Executive Director Kerry Quaglia.
Officials say the homes should be ready for sale in the spring and they hope to build more in the future.
