SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- There's new information regarding the SU football program and star wide receiver Mike Williams, who abruptly quit the team on Monday. News 10 Now has learned Williams and three other SU players were involved in a car accident on the New York State Thruway early Sunday morning. The three other players have been suspended indefinitely by head coach Doug Marrone for violation of team rules.

State Troopers tell us Williams was a passenger in a car driven by offensive lineman Andrew Tiller. Running back Antoine Bailey and defensive end Torrey Ball were also in the car.

Troopers say their car was rear-ended by a tractor trailer at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday. The four players were traveling westbound on the Thruway near Chittenango. Tiller was taken to University Hospital for neck and back injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Police are still investigating but no tickets have been issued. According to police reports, the players in the car were the victims of the crash.

Now losing Williams on Monday was a big enough blow, but losing Bailey for at least the next game is nearly as big. The Orange second-leading rusher and third-leading receiver, Bailey was blossoming in his sophomore season into SU's most versatile offensive weapon.

Bailey and two linemen will sit on the bench for at least a game and maybe more for being involved in the incident.

The Orange also announced starting defensive end Jared Kimmel will have season-ending knee surgery after hurting himself against Cincinnati.
