LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- Women from across Central New York were invited to take part in an afternoon of "retail therapy and pampering" Sunday and it was all for a good cause.

"Heather's Girls Day Out" was held by "Hope for Heather", an organization that honors Heather Weeks of Liverpool who died of ovarian cancer at the age of 24.

Hope for Heather raises money to support ovarian cancer research, raise awareness and provide community support for women and their families who are affected by cancer.

Although the afternoon was filled with shopping, pedicures and manicures, it was intended to send a much more serious message to the women of Central New York.

“We're trying to turn the world teal, which is the color of Ovarian Cancer Awareness. Make it recognizable and make the women in the community, aware of the symptoms,” said Frieda Weeks, Heather's mother and foundation president.
