Hoffman skeptical of 23rd Congressional election vote tally
The election may have been two weeks ago, but controversy still surrounds the results in the 23rd Congressional district. Conservative candidate Doug Hoffman wants to check the election vote tallies. And he's asking his supporters to donate to the cause. As our Sarah Hagen tells us, Hoffman's latest move is upsetting democrats and republicans alike.

NORTHERN NEW YORK -- In a recent letter to fellow conservatives, 23rd Congressional candidate Doug Hoffman suggests the election was rigged, sparking outrage among those in the North Country political community.
St. Lawrence County Republican Committee Chairwoman Nancy Martin said, "He is looking for closure. But I don't think he should find it in reckless accusations against our board of elections and our election inspectors."
Hoffman picked up votes in Oswego as local Board of Elections recanvased their votes. And now he's suggesting ACORN and other unions were involved in tampering with results on election night.
Jefferson County Board of Elections Democratic Commissioner Sean Hennessey said, "Nothing could be further from the truth. There has been no contact with ACORN or any other organization."
Oswego Board of Elections Democratic Commissioner William Scriber said, "If he had any knowledge of how the county board of elections operate, he would know what a patently false and actually asinine statement that was. Board of elections are bi-partisan."
Hoffman's letter asks for supporters to donate, to help ensure every vote is counted. But New York State's Democratic Executive Committee Chair says votes are counted regardless.
New York State Democratic Executive Committee Chair June O'Neill said, "People, please save your money. Every vote is being counted. It happens every time in New York State, after every election."
And while votes are still being recanvased and audits are underway, the declared winner of the race, democrat Bill Owens, has already been sworn into Congress. And he's moving forward with his agenda in Washington.
Owens said, "I have not been focused on Mr. Hoffman's activities at this point. I am fully occupied doing to work of a congressman in Washington and back in the district."
And when probed by the question, is there any doubt in your mind that it might have been tampered with?
"No, I do not believe that is true," Owens said.
According to the New York State Board of Elections, the certified numbers are expected to be in from the 11 county district by November 28th. Once those numbers are in, if they are within a one-percent range of each other, a recount will automatically happen. If not, that recount will have to be judge ordered.
Calls were placed to the Doug Hoffman campaign, but he was unavailable for an interview and no comment was provided.
