SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse Police are reaching out to another Northside neighborhood, creating a community policing center along Butternut Street.

The center was created with the help of community organizations, along with the Father's Heart Ministries. It's designed to go beyond just traditional police work.

"This is a community center. This is not just a police center. It's a community center. I just want to encourage everyone to participate and get involved with this," said Pastor James Gebhardt of Father's Heart Ministries.

"I know it's going to be positive. I know it's going to be great for this neighborhood and, you know, it's going to be good to see the improvement overall, everywhere around," said Syracuse Police Officer Ken Burdick.

Neighbors offered special thanks to both Mayor Matt Driscoll and Police Chief Gary Miguel, who both plan to leave office at the end of the year.
