SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Sometimes, it's good to be bad, no, wicked. "Wicked," the award-winning musical about the Witches of Oz, before Dorothy entered the picture, has come to Syracuse for a three-week-run. It's a first in the 67-year history of Famous Artists, the show's presenter.

"Now three full weeks, that's 24 performances, eight a week for three consecutive weeks, never have we had that. And it's very exciting and I must confess, that we're not doing so badly," said Murray Bernthal, Famous Artists founder.

Syracuse is the smallest city and the Crouse-Hinds Theatre is the smallest venue the tour has ever come to. But the troop is looking for the same success they've had elsewhere. Despite the recession, Broadway celebrated record ticket sales last year and the traveling tours pulled in strong numbers as well.

"I think when people are looking to manage their finances better, they say what can they do and find the best value. And certainly when they can stay in their community, spend their money in their community, take their families to see a show, it manifests itself in the way it has here, it has on Broadway and all over the country," said Albert Nocciolino with NAC Entertainment.

The goal number is to draw in 48,000 people throughout the shows. And downtown's restaurants, hotels, and shops are looking forward to cashing in on that foot traffic.

"We've had great success in marketing that product base to places like Buffalo, Albany, Ottawa. The draw is there. This just gives us another avenue to tap someone on the shoulder and say hey, 'how about Syracuse,'" said David Holder with the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau.

After all, Syracuse is the Emerald City.
