SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse area business leaders have gotten some good news about the outlook for 2010. A glimmer of hope after a long downturn.
An economist from M&T Bank told those business leaders at their annual economic forecast luncheon that there is reason to believe this year will turn out much brighter than the year past.
"We're seeing the slow rebound from just an awful year ago. It's going to take time, but we're seeing the underpinnings of what needs to happen. We're seeing the manufacturing sector getting new orders. We're seeing inventories, worked down in many businesses, where they need to restock," said Gary Keith, M&T Bank economist.
Keith told the business leaders that the full recovery depends on consumers deciding things are stable enough to begin spending for big ticket items, once again.
