TIOGA COUNTY, Pa. -- As Pennsylvania embraces the positive aspects of Marcellus Shale drilling, it's also dealing with issues it creates.
The Senate Urban Affairs and Housing committee held a public hearing Thursday to hear testimony about how the industry is affecting housing. The committee heard the demand for temporary housing has significantly increased rental prices. his makes it hard for senior citizens and low-income renters to find housing.
Other testimony said landlords are less likely to work with people who are overdue on payments. That's because they know they can lease to gas companies who will pay higher rent.
Senator Gene Yaw says most of those who testified believed the issues can be resolved in the long-term and work should start now.
