WASHINGTON D.C. -- Democratic Congressman Eric Massa is resigning.

In a statement issued on his website Friday afternoon, Congressman Massa said he would step down effective Monday at 5 p.m.

The congressman from Corning sited an ethics panel investigation as the reason for his resignation.

The investigation stems from complaints by one of his staffers that the congressman made comments that made him feel "uncomfortable."

Massa’s announcement comes just days after he announced he would
not seek re-election due to health concerns.

By law Massa’s seat must be filled via an election, either Governor Paterson could declare a special election or the seat could remain vacant until November.
