Seaway ice clearing to begin

NORTH COUNTRY, N.Y. -- The St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation will begin ice clearing around the U.S. locks near Massena on March 17th.
The Seaway tugboat Robinson Bay will clear any remaining ice from the Snell and Eisenhower Locks and the Wiley-Dondero Canal. This is in preparation for the opening of the shipping season on March 25th.
Officials are warning that the ice cover in these areas will be unstable after operations begin.
The Seaway and the Canadian Coast Guard have yet to set a date for icebreaking in the upper part of the river toward Lake Ontario.
