SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- He says an investigation will decide the fate of David Paterson, but former republican governor George Pataki says it is time to return stability and high ethical standards to Albany.

Pataki spoke after a lecture at the college of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. He urged New Yorkers not to despair over the turn of events in Albany.

"Prior to the current crisis in Albany, we had over 32 years with three governors who all served and left holding their heads high. That will happen again. I just think we need to hold elected officials accountable. We cannot expect them to behave in any way but to the highest possible ethical standard and when they don't, they should be thrown out and if they've broken the law, they should be prosecuted," said Pataki.

Pataki still refuses to say if he has any plans to run in 2010. He's been mentioned as a potential challenger to U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
