Car dealer charged with fraud, larceny
BREWERTON, N.Y. -- A Brewerton car dealer is accused of stealing from his customers. The Onondaga County Sheriff's Department says Anthony Spinella, the owner of Spinella's Auto Sales, would accept a vehicle trade-in with the understanding that he would pay off the customer's existing lien. But deputies say, Spinella never followed through on those payments and then sold the cars.
Investigators says Spinella was also selling warranties to customers but never applied the money to complete the registration process. They say this was going on between September and December of last year.
Spinella is charged with grand larceny, falsifying business records and scheme to defraud. All three are felonies.
