BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The City of Binghamton has more than $2 million allocated to improve its neighborhoods, and city leaders are seeking input from neighbors on how to spend it.
City officials are making the rounds at community meetings, getting suggestions on how to use federal HUD funding over the next five years.
The First Ward hosted a meeting Tuesday where neighbors pitched a host of ideas. Suggestions included improvements to a local park, replacing a community pool and increasing home ownership.
City leaders say their goal is to get as much input as they can.
"To get the reaction and ideas of the neighbors, the residents who live here who will benefit directly from these funds, and how best to use those funds for the city," said Bob Weslar, a member of the Binghamton City Council. "It's very important to get public input because it's the public who live here and we want to make it the best community for us."
Three additional meetings are planned for this week.
