SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- More detour signs appear for commuters in Syracuse. I-81 North is back open, but now there's a new hurdle. The Erie Boulevard Bridge over West Street in Syracuse is now closed.
The project to remove and replace the existing bridge is expected to keep the roadway closed until September 30th.
Detour signs will be posted, but if you would like to take a look at the directions, please see below.
As for the demolition project on North State Street, all is going according to plan. The highway opened up over the weekend.
More work still needs to be done, but at this point, the demolition is no longer considered a threat to commuters on I-81 North.
Here are the detours the New York State Department of Transportation recommends:
> Westbound Detour: West on Route 5 (West Genesee Street) to Geddes Street. Left on Geddes Street to Erie Blvd.
> Eastbound Detour: Left on Plum Street to Route 5 (West Genesee Street). Right on Route 5 (West Genesee Street) to Franklin Street.
> The West Street northbound off-ramp to Erie Blvd (westbound) will also be closed to all traffic during this same time period. West Street Northbound Off-Ramp Detour: Proceed north on West Street to the Herald Place exit, proceed on Herald Place to Wallace Street to Route 5 (West Genesee Street), right on Route 5 (West Genesee Street) to Geddes Street, left on Geddes Street to Erie Blvd .
