SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A military man was given praise and recognition on Monday at the Syracuse City Hall Common Council Chambers. Senator John DeFrancisco recognized Silver Star Medal recipient Chief Petty Officer Jeremy Torrisi for his heroic actions while serving in Afghanistan.
Torrisi was presented with a State of New York Legislative Resolution for saving four lives in a firefight. Acting against a do not enter order, Torrisi ran through enemy fire to administer care to fellow soldiers.
Chief Petty Officer Torrisi says everyone acted heroically that day and he is very humbled by the special recognition.
"It is an extreme honor, anytime anyone takes the time to recognize you, it doesn't matter if it's a guy on the street that never served a day, or the guy that's been in for 20 to 30 years, it's just very humbling," said Torrisi.
"What he ended up doing, grabbing a grenade and throwing it in the area where some of the fire was coming, in order to get to wounded core men and getting wounded himself and still continuing his operation until he saved several people," said DeFrancisco.
Torrisi will be leaving soon to serve our country on his third tour.
