Council delays Connective Corridor legislation

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse common councilors have delayed action on legislation clearing the way for the start up of Syracuse's Connective Corridor project, linking Syracuse University with the downtown area.
Lawmakers said they wanted time to hold further talks with business owners concerned about traffic pattern changes along the route. But there are also indications of growing concern for some councilors over the costs of the project, which they say are substantial at a time when the city is facing deep budget problems.
"The economic feasibility of the project. What kind of costs go into the infrastructure after the fact? How do we, you know, maintain these improvements? And these are things we need solid answers on," said Syracuse Common Councilor Ryan McMahon.
A combination of city, state and federal dollars, along with money from Syracuse University, would pay for the estimated $20 million project cost.
