SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Local labor leaders say they're working to resolve a dispute involving workers at the state fairgrounds. In a statement released Friday, officials say the Greater Syracuse Labor Council is now in discussions with the state and the Department of Agriculture and Markets.

Leaders had been calling for a labor boycott of the fair this year because they say many temporary workers represented by local unions have no employment agreements.

Fair director Dan O'Hara has said that's because lawmakers approved a change making the fair a state agency, instead of an authority. O'Hara says it's up to a state board to decide whether or not temporary fair workers can be represented by unions.

Labor leaders are also unhappy with the abrupt termination of some year round security and maintenance workers a few months ago.
