Senators call on British Prime Minister for investigation

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand met with the British Prime Minister Tuesday night in Washington, D.C. to address concerns over the release of the convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdel Bassett al-Megrahi.
Al-Megrahi served just eight years of a life sentence in Scotland because a doctor reported he had advanced prostate cancer and had just three months to live. Now the doctor says he was pressured to make that report and he admits al-Megrahi might live another decade.
Schumer has led the charge for a full-on investigation into who was behind the release and says his concerns are being taken seriously.
"Our requests for an independent investigation are still on the table. He said that it is not case closed. As you know he did directly and without equivocation say what the release of al-Megrahi by the Scottish government was wrong," Schumer said.
As part of the investigation, Schumer wants the oil company British Petroleum investigated and possibly restricted from using any Libyan oil fields. He says that could in turn, cost Libya millions and force them to hand over al-Megrahi.
