SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Diversity awareness in Central New York is in the spotlight Wednesday as members of Leadership Greater Syracuse get together for "Embrace and Celebrate Diversity Day."

The Community Folk Art Center and SU Warehouse are hosting the day-long event. Members are listening to speeches and taking part in panel discussions bringing awareness to local diversity issues.

Some highlight local refugee populations, while others focus on workplace diversity or community racism.

"We wanted to provide diversity in many ways so people can experience it instead of just hearing about it," said Emad Rahin, Morrisville State College professor, former refugee.

Meanwhile, Leadership Greater Syracuse is accepting applications for next year's class through the end of the month.
